Hi all,
It has been great to see so much activity at the Club.
Tuesday night we have had our newest Tigers – our Tiger Cubs undertaking the Hook in to Hockey program. There are second and third generation Tigers beginning their journey into the game we love. Thank you to the wonderful helpers who are doing such a great job with our Tiger Cubs.
Sunday evenings our senior men and women have been competing in the HV summer comp – they both completed an outstanding seasons – each winning the Grand Final. Congratulations to all on a great performance after so long off the pitch! A wonderful start to the 2021 Season.
As we approach the start of the season there is still much to do:
We all have to endeavour to get in as much preseason training as we can – it has been a long time since we have played a full 70 minutes of hockey!
We need to ensure we pay our fees prior to game one – remember we have a No Pay No Play policy. If you need to discuss a payment plan please do so asap.
Check your uniform – if you need any new pieces or are new to the club please see Holly or your section coordinator asap to organise your playing kit.
Behind the scenes your Board and Committee are working hard to ensure everything is in place and plans are being made for the whole season. Keep an eye out on Facebook and around the Club for updates on what’s happening.
Please ensure you are aware of current COVID requirements – these change so please keep an eye out for any changes. At the moment you are required to sign in using the QR code on arrival at the Club, hand sanitise and as a team ensure benches are sanitised after use. Please observe numbers in each area and when possible social distance.
Round 1 is at home – this is Return to Werribee Day.
It will be the first time since August 2019 that we will play competitive games at the Cage! Let’s ensure as many of us as possible get to the Club and support the four teams in the opening round for the season and celebrate the return to competition. We will also have a social evening incorporating an iPod shuffle and dinner!
Junior games begin Friday 30th April. Good luck to all our junior teams. I hope you enjoy your hockey and learn many new skills as the year progresses.
The Allan Purcell Memorial Round
As most of you are aware we lost a long time friend and Life Member of the Club during 2019. Due to COVID restrictions we were unable to celebrate the contributions Allan made to the Club and reflect on his passing. Round 3, May 1st will be the Allan Purcell Memorial Round. Allan’s family will be present. The feature of the day will be a Dedication Address immediately prior to the Vic League 1 men’s game at 1:45pm. Allan’s family will escort the teams onto the pitch and a minute of silence will be observed to reflect on the many contributions Allan made to Werribee Hockey Club. All Club members – past and present are invited to attend the day and pay their respect to Allan.
For those who haven’t read the Club’s Vale to Allan it is on our website, Allan Purcell Vale.
Good Sports Gold Medal Accredited Club
Due to the fact that we have policies that address good practices around alcohol and drug use and have a safe environment we are now a Good Sports Gold Medal Accredited Club. If you wish to read the policies please go to our webpage – governance section.
Wyndham City Council Lease for the pavilion and ground
We lease all the facilities we have at Presidents’ Park from the Council. There are several conditions to our lease and I share some of the ones that apply directly to members, families and spectators. Please help the Club follows these so we are do not loose the lease and thus our capacity to function.
All COVID requirements must be observed at all times.
The Club is to “ensure vehicles are parked in designated parking bays and in compliance with car parking laws, regulations and restrictions.
Alcoholic beverages must not be sold or consumed during junior activities. (training, competition, etc).
Looking forward to seeing you all at the pitch in the coming weeks.
Lyn Tout
Chair of the Board
