July Newsletter
by Lyn Tout, Chair of the Board
So much has happened during my time away. The season continued for a brief time, was shut down, was up and running. And now we are in lockdown again.
A big thank you to Holly, who took over all the COVID planning and monitoring while I was away – she did a great job. Another big thank you to the Board who kept everything running smoothly. This has meant the work of the Board, on the whole, goes unnoticed as everything progresses as it should. Well done.
As always with the current virus situation we are in an ever-changing environment. We have no certainty as to when this current lockdown will end and thus it is difficult to plan anything concrete for the rest of the season. Rest assured the Board are working hard to ensure we, at Werribee, are impacted no more than need be. We will endeavor to have a social event as soon as the restrictions and the draw enable us to.
At last night’s (20th July) HV forum the advice, as to restarting, is that we will restart at the round fixtured for the date of resumption of competitive competition. That is if we are allowed to resume competitive hockey on 6/7th August we will play the games fixtured for that weekend – round 11 for juniors and round 13 for seniors. There is also to be further consideration as to what this will mean to the season and finals series. Nothing definite has been announced. Further advice will be circulated once we know more.
Congratulations to:
Our JSC reps: Molly Eldridge, Mackenzie Condon, Tehya Hillyer, Callum Bridge, Ryan Fraser, Morrison White-Gould and Liam Paredes. I know you gave your best and represented the Tigers well.
Our 500 gamers – Andrew Purcell, Rachel Catania and Cath Munro. Your service and commitment to the club is outstanding.
Our Masters Victorian Reps: Andrew Purcell, Glenn Lloyd, Neville Hopkins (Life Member) Gina Herbert, and Cath Munro. Fingers crossed we all get to go to the Australian Mega Masters Championships in Newcastle late September to early October. Good luck to each of you.
The organisers of Pink Day – another great effort raising money to support our Breast Cancer Nurses.
Our sponsors:
The contributions these businesses make ensure that we are a viable and functioning Club. The contributions ensure that we can keep our fees as low as possible and continue with the development of our Club. Remember they are also doing it hard during these ever-changing times. Please ensure that you support them at every opportunity.
Tigers’ Clubhouse – a great venue for a meal and a nigh out. Provides a range of opportunities with social nights, a playground for kids and great meals.
Earle and Jill Motors – a great place to get everything done with the car – full servicing, brakes, road worthies.
Werribee Mitsubishi – check out great deals on new and used cars.
Victorian Fireplaces – for everything in relation to outdoor cooking and heating and indoor heating.
Well worth the visit.
A reminder that we have certain responsibilities re the use of our facilities. We lease all the facilities
we have at Presidents’ Park from the Council. There are several conditions to our lease and I share
some of the ones that apply directly to members, families and spectators. Please help the Club follow
these so we are do not lose the lease and thus our capacity to function.
i. All COVID requirements must be observed at all times.
ii. The Club is to “ensure vehicles are parked in designated parking bays and in compliance with
car parking laws, regulations and restrictions.”
iii. “Alcoholic beverages must not be sold or consumed during junior activities. (Training,
competition, etc)
Please look after yourself, and if you need support, please do not hesitate to contact the Club – either
a playing friend, your coach, manager, section coordinator or a member of the Board. We are a family,
and we will do all we can to look after each and every member. Just give us a call.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the Club in the not-too-distant future.
Lyn Tout
Chair of the Board
